A depleted Geelong SC sent out a clear message to the rest of the league with a enthralling 3-2 win over top of the table Yarraville.
Geelong’s opened its account when Matteo Goristo was opened up on the wing from an Ante Cicak free kick, Goristo smashed the ball across the face of goal only for a Yarraville defender to turn the ball into his own net. Yarraville equalised shortly before the break.
After the break roles where reversed when Goristo opened up Cicak inside the Yarraville area, Cicak beat his opponent with ease and placed the ball into the bottom right corner.
Oktay Yilmaz was pulled to the ground after catching Yarraville on the counter which subsequently saw the Yarraville defender sent off. From the resulting free kick, Geelong caught the Yarraville defenders napping with a crafty set piece. Troy Hardy poised himself to shoot but instead played a short ball into the feet of Goristo who turned and slotted the ball into the net. Yarraville scored a late consolation goal
