On Sunday, 3rds Men’s Team continued their winning streak by defeating Barwon 4:0. This win moves the team into 4th position on the Ladder with a credible 5-2 win/loss record.
GeelongSC bagged 4 goals despite playing without their strike duo of Georgi (injured back-workcare claim) and Robbi (unavailable-holiday/procreation mission).
GeelongSC began their dominance on this match from the onset. Enjoying a very high ball-possession rate the team came close to scoring a number of times in the opening minutes of play.
Peter Stoj got our breakthrough goal after Miki won one of his trademark free-kicks just outside the box. Stoj struck the free-kick low around the wall into Barwon’s net. Kristejan was our next goalscorer, striking a speculative shot from some 30 meters which bounced over the Barwon keeper and found net.
The British expatriate-filled Barwon team were employing a dated “play the man not the ball” style of football in an effort to get into the match. Their tactics proved fruitless as GeelongSC were able to maintain their focus on playing the ball, allowing their superior skills and game plan to shine through.
GeelongSC went on to scoring two more goals in the second half. Costa scored ther third goal, striking a left-footed “felsh” drive from distance which belt around the Barwon keeper and found the far post of the net. Later Stoj completed the scoring with an equally impressive goal. He turned a couple of defenders outside the box before curling his shot into Barwon’s top corner.
Doctor Dean and James made noteworthy debuts while Zoki Hung put-in a typical stoic performance at left back.
Contrats guys on a terrific performance.
Next week we play Breakwater away at 1:00pm.
