Having their first game in three weeks, Geelong faced up to a very determined Surfside outfit that had only one focus for the day. And that was to win at all costs.
Even though Geelong had a number of key players out due to injury and other commitments we lacked the desire and willingness to keep pace with Surfside.
The score line did not reflect the true nature and spirit in which Geelong was found lacking. Apart from a solid game in goals by Emily and a die-hard approach by Sumeyra, Geelong were left flat footed and chasing shadows all afternoon.

Geelong 0 Surfside Waves 3
Surfside Waves brought high flying Geelong’s unbeaten run to a halt after a convincing 3-0 win at Stead park, the Waves took the game to Geelong from the off and kept the pressure on the Geelong defence, bringing a fine save from their keeper Sarah Moat from a Maddy Bennet thunderbolt. Still dangerous on the break Geelong kept Surfside’s keeper Rachel Sanzaro on her toes.
Maddy Bennett, broke the deadlock with an unstoppable shot. Lara Williams grabbed a second just after the restart. Waves had a few nervous moments at the back as Geelong went in search of a goal but Surfside held firm. Carla D’Alessandro then scored a rare header to put the game out of Geelong’s reach.
