Geelong Soccer Club – Coaching Announcement

The Geelong Soccer Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Cooper as Senior Coach for the 2015 to 2016 soccer calendar years. This is the clubs first ever 2 year appointment and is another sign the club is thinking ahead and moving forward in the right direction.

The club considered multiple candidates for the coaching role and implemented a thorough process in the assessment of each candidate. After due consideration, Michael received the endorsement of the sub-committee, led by club President Mick Nikolovski and long serving committee member Peter Stojanovski. The recommendation of the sub-committee was unanimously endorsed by the club’s committee.

Michael comes to the Geelong Soccer Club with a decorated resume and brings credentials and experience from highly regarded English clubs. Michael holds UEFA B licence and Youth FA Level 3 licence. Michael has held several youth and senior head coaching positions which include:

  • Youth Coach & Senior Coach – Salisbury City Football Club (England)
  • Youth Coach – Portsmouth Football Club (England)
  • Academy Coach – Southampton Football Club (England)

Michael Cooper played 10 years as a professional and semi-professional footballer in England with Exeter City and Yeovil Town before serious knee injuries ended his playing career.

Michael is currently employed in a full time position as Coaching Educator with the Football Federation of Victoria. Prior to this role he was the Technical Director for North Geelong Soccer Club.

President Mick Nikolovski said, “In our judgment, Michael is the right person to take our senior team forward, and develop our next group of juniors coming through to bring sustained success to the Geelong Soccer Club. Michael will also play a pivotal role in developing structuring our junior coaching program”.

“Michael has a reputation in the football community for developing players and creating a junior structure and environment for ongoing player development. This is a strategic relationship, and our club welcomes his overall view on the game,” Nikolovski said.

The Geelong Soccer Club is looking forward to 2015 with great excitement.

Our club is also proud to announce our new signing for season 2015 – Michael Boyar.
