After a dissapointing performance last week against Cairnlea, Geelong rebounded with a gutsy display, defeating league leaders Sunbury 3-2.
Oktay Yilmaz scored within minutes. Mathais Gorosito found some room out wide to squeeze a pass through to Yilmaz who flicked the ball over his head, the looping flick was seemingly going out of play when a Sunbury defender nodded the ball into the net. Sunbury replied almost immediately when they received a free kick on the right wing, the cross was met at the back post and was headed over keeper, Romeo Purlija, into the far corner of the net.
Geelongs second came when Chris Balaburova launched a deep cross that was met by James Agius, who turned the ball across the face of goal for Troy Hardy to slam home the volley with his left foot. Moments later Scott Davison lobbed the ball into the box to again be met by the head of Agius, who flicked the ball on for Gorosito to put past the Sunbury keeper.
Sunbury pulled one back seconds before the half time whistle but Geelong shut up shop in the second half and that is the way the scores remained.
