Danny Gnjidic sacked by Werribee City Bees

WERRIBEE City shocked the soccer community by sacking coach Danny Gnjidic on Monday morning.

Gnjidic, in his second season at the helm since crossing from Ballarat Red Devils, was informed of his demise over the phone by club president Sam Panebianco.

The Bees have been one of the best-performing clubs in the opening 13 rounds with 25 points and on third place on the Football Federation Victoria men’s state league 2 north-west ladder.

The club would have been top of the ladder had it not lost three points for an administrative error back in the opening round.

Gnjidic, who oversaw the Bees’ 2-2 draw with Altona City at Galvin Park on Saturday, was shell-shocked by the termination of his coaching position.

“It doesn’t make much sense,” he told the Weekly. “The president rings me today and tells me they’re going to move me on because our last five games haven’t been good enough.

“Our only loss this season was six games ago and the last five games we’ve had two wins and three draws.”

Gnjidic leaves the Bees with a record of 17 wins, nine draws and nine losses over two seasons.
