Coach Kit’s match report – Sydenham Park 3-1 GeelongSC

We travelled to Keilor Lodge Reserve for our round 18 encounter against league leaders Sydenham Park. Again bad luck struck before a ball was even kicked with the late withdrawel of our key central defender Chris, being ruled out with a knee injury during the warm up. Young Billy who captains the reserve side replaced Chris without too much disruption to the organisation.

The ground was very heavy with excess water visable to all, but the referee decided to go ahead. Within ten minutes we found
ourselves one down with a well worked goal. The attacking wing back dashed past Darko on the left side and put an inch perfect cross to the back post where the ball was headed back across goal and the striker duly oblidged with a well taken header.

Within fifteen minutes we equalised from a Darko free kick into the box which was well met by Pascal, who’s powerfull header gave Tomic in goals no chance. Within minutes, injury struck again with our captain and key midfielder Steve Niko going down to a calf injury. He was immediately replaced by Dean and once again we were stretched to the limit in relation to our depth or lack of it.

Against the run of play Sydenham were awarded a penalty (dubious ) and Koce Delev duly converted giving the champions elect the upper hand once again. Our fighting spirit can never be questioned as this squad has great character and minutes later Matty went on a great run past several defenders only to be scythed down at the edge of the box. The resultant free kick produced nothing and again Sydenham ventured forward and got a third which virtually killed the game.

On Friday 24th we welcome our visitors and title contenders Avondale Heights to Stead park for a 8.30 kick off, Reseves start at 6.30.

On the injury front, this week we have our captain Steve Niko missing for avweek  with a calf, we have our centre back Chris out with a knee, and we have Paulie sidelined for the season with his leg fracture, also we lost Billy with liagament damage. We also have our experienced sweeper Ivica out suspended with 5 yellows. On the positive, Aco returns after suspension and Bibi returned from overseas .
