Soncin Departs Ways

Geelong SC can announces that first team coach Fabrizio Soncin has resigned, by mutual agreement with the Board.

Soncin leaves after only one round played #matchday1, where the club had an emphatic win over sister club, Preston Lions FC.

The club would like to thank Fab for his commitment & preparation to training, regularly travelling from Bendigo to Geelong and being particular with the approach to his work.

Parting Ways

GSC is in search of its 2017 Senior coach as of today. An era ended with the club and former coach, Steve Laurie parting ways.

Coach Laurie, announced on Social Media of his departure and thanked all those involved in his development as Senior coach.

Laurie’s record over 2 season with the club was a 62% winning ratio (17% draw and 21% loss). He steered the club to its first title since 1998 in 2016, notching up 16 wins with 3 draws and 3 losses on the journey. A total of 85 points achieved from a possible 126 with 78 goals scored and 51 conceded from the 33 year old in charge. Geelong SC gave Steve his first taste of football management.

Club wishes well to Steve Laurie. Thank you for your efforts and contribution to the club.

GSC Youth Finals

The season concluded on the weekend for our U17, U15A’s and U15B’s with gracious defeats by all 3 sides.

U17 lost 3-1 to 2nd placed table, Surf Coast who will meet U17 Champions, Geelong Rangers in the Final. Goal scorer for U17s was Adnan Vrbovac.

Our U15A were cruelly bowed out of the final after winning the league, by a penalty shootout. The match ended up 1-1 after the full time whistle with Johnny Luong putting us level when we were 1-0 down. A dubious call towards the end of the match where Johnny Luong was put through with a 1v1 against the Park keeper, was upended only for the referee to call it outside of the penalty box where it most definitely looked inside the box.

U15A’s little brother, the U15B’s lost to Golden Plains in the Semi Final. Scoreline of 2-1 with Sam Rowbottom getting our consolation goal.

Pictured below is both U15A’s and U15B’s together in comaredere, together as one.

On a brighter note, we have our U13’s representing the club in the Grand Final. The Semi Final match was won on penalties after a full time scoreline of 1-1 against Elcho Park Cardinals. Goalscorer in the match was Rijad Ugarak. The team go on to play the League Champions, Geelong Rangers who are ranked favourites to win. Please come and support the U13s in the final.

A large thanks to all coaches, team managers and assistants, not to mention players and parents for their support during the 2016 season. There are too many people to list as a thank you. We now look forward to presentation night for all teams. Thank you ALL for your support throughout the year!
