Brave Surfside no match for Geelong’s U17’s

No one really could have picked this week’s score line as our prolific striker Alberto Lopez is in Spain for the next month on loan to Real Madrid. Ok, so not really on loan, but he is at a Real Academy training camp for the next fortnight and we wish him all the best.

With Lopez gone, the “Rendev” show began.  Right from the first whistle Jordan Rendevski was a ball magnet celebrating the first with a fist pumping “yeah”. His second celebration soon after was far more subdued as his strike took a deflection leaving Surfside’s keeper wrong footed. Not long after, Dylan Stojanovski’s powerful left foot shot blew out the back of the net for the third goal of the day. Jimmy “Hollywood” Vo was more reminiscent of Tiger Woods at Augusta with two sublime chip shoots narrowly sailing over the crossbar.  Unfortunately Billy Fanraatree went on a koala cull with two more powerful shoots struck from range hitting the gumtrees at the Refinery end goal of Stead Park. And “Stoj” after some deft ball control was denied twice by the keeper before Shivanaan Kanapathy made it 4-0 just before the break.

The restart saw Tuan Nguyen moved from right back to striker partnering Harley Fountain who both made some good forward runs, but it was Anthony “Doggys” Nguyen’s through ball down the wing that Tuan ran down to neatly tuck into the back of the net for his second of the season.

Even at 5-0 a brave Surfside refused to lay down with Stefan Psimaris, “Chinese” Stefan Luong, Doggys, Shiva, Billy, Hollywood, Rendev and indeed Surfside all squandering several scoring opportunities over the next 10 minutes.

With 15 minutes left in the match, Rendev had a spell on the bench after rounding off his hat trick and Jimmy Hollywood Vo made the score line 7-0 when his third chip shot finally cleared the keeper’s finger tips and bounced into the net. A relentless Geelong ended the rout at 8-0 after an errant back pass and the keeper’s miss kick saw an opportunistic Hollywood casually walk the ball into an open goal.
