Reserves in high scoring battle

Lalor 3-2 Geelong

The game that ended the reserves impressive unbeaten run was rather peculiar to say the least. The first half saw our boys somewhat lacking in structure and commitment. The longer the half went the more things seemed to go from bad to worse.  An own goal, missed penalty and down 3-0 to a reasonable at best Lalor side summed up a dismal first half for our boys. Surely things could not get worse!

In his half time address Coach Gaitanis asked for a much higher level  of commitment and energy from everyone on the park. Early in the second half a cross-shot form Paul Edebohls sailed over the keepers head for a goal. At last a bit of luck!

This stung our boys into action and they harassed and pressured Lalor into mistake after mistake. The attack on the Lalor goal was relentless with Jimmy Vo, Shiva Kanapathy and Michael Temelkovski seeing shots going agonisingly close. The second goal, scored by  Chris Balaburova was from a similar position to the first.

At 3-2 Lalor was on the ropes. An equaliser seemed inevitable and almost came from an Aco Stanisic free kick which rattled the crossbar and over for a corner as the keeper was left admiring the shot. In the end time ran out and Lalor hung on to win.

Coach Gaitanis will be stressing to his squad the importance of  honest, genuine effort right from the first minute as we prepare to  face Cairnlea.
