VSF Men: Essendon Utd 2-7 Geelong SC

Geelong rebounded from last weeks loss by crushing Essendon Utd 7-2.

Within five minutes Essendon took the lead from a goal mouth scramble but Geelong quickly replied through Chris Psimaris who smashed the ball into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. It was Geelong who took the lead when they caught Essendon on the counter, Mathais Gorosito put it in the net after he was found by a James Aguis pass. With just minutes before the break Essendon caught Geelong on the counter to level things up.

It took 15 minutes for Geelong to find their stride in the second half, but it proved to be worth the wait as what ensued was joy to watch.

After spending two games on the side line through suspension, Ante Cicak, pick pocketed an Essendon defender at the half way line and broke through for a one on one only for his shot to be denied by the Essendon keeper, Troy Hardy followed it up and put the ball into the empty net. Again Cicak played his part in Geelongs fourth effort as he laid the ball off for Scott Davison who scored a spectacular effort from outside the box, his first goal since returning to Stead Park.

Captain, Steve Nikolovski, scored Geelongs fifth from the penalty spot, after Chris Psimaris was brought down inside the area. Next was younger brother, Michael Nikolovski's turn as he turned one into the net from outside the area.

Troy Hardy completed the rout when he finished off a through ball from Gorosito.

Chris Balaburova was introduced into the game with 5 minutes to spare, making his first senior appearance in over a year after suffering a serious knee injury. Welcome back Chris!
