On Saturday, our Mens First team suffered a loss at lowly Westvale. The loss leaves our team firmly anchored in 7th place on the Ladder. The match was played in dreadful windy conditions on a relatively small field. Westvale enjoyed the advantage of the wind in the first half. Geelong began well creating a number of half chances before they suffered their first set-back. Chris injured his knee and had to leave the field. Westvale soon-after scored the match-winning goal when they were able to convert from a goalmouth scrammble.
The second half was all about Geelong, kicking down-wind Geelong was able to apply enormous pressures on the Westvale goal. But unfortunately all the territorial dominance didn't eventuate in an goals. Westvale somehow got through the half with a clean sheet.
Further set-backs to Geelong was the loss of Josko who suffered a hampstring injury and Darcy who recieved a second yellow card.
Coach Pece, who is very sick and bed-ridded, was only able to make a few comments about the game; 'veter....losh sudija...katastrofa.....nikakva utakmica....nema sto da se kaze!'
Translation; 'our young team battled howling windy conditions....we were fortunate to have a Melbourne based referee......we were unlucky....it's amazing we went scoreless considering the talent and superior skills we showcased....I wish I was well enough to say more about this match'.
(note - I failed Sunday Maco school)
Next week Geelong plays promotion chasing Maribyrnong Greens at Stead Park. Should be a terrific match-up!
