Reserves record 4-1 Win v Hume Utd

New Coach Steve Gaitanis commenced his tenure with a resounding victory.  Lining up in 3-5-2 formation the team took a little while to settle but the boys started worrying Hume from about the 20 minute mark onwards.  The first goal was a cracker from Shane Zordan who shot on the turn from about 20 meters out to leave the keeper hopelessly stranded.  This was a strike of the highest quality and would not have looked out of place in South Africa the moment.  The Hume goalie’s night got worse about 5 minutes later when Nick Bosevski scored with an effort equally appealing to the eye.  A penetrating ball from Chris Balaburova was met by Bosevski with a thundering volley from a tight angle.  This strike had Marco Van Basten Euro 1988 Final stamped all over it.  Had South African vuvuzelas been available then they surely would have been blowing!

Geelong went into the half time break 2-1 ahead.  The challenge was to keep the pressure on Hume.  Paul Edebohls came off the bench and looked lively.  Shiva Kanapathy was causing Hume all sorts of problems on the left and an excellent run and pull back left Alex Ilioski with the simple task of putting the ball into an empty net.  Nick Bosevski grabbed his second after some excellent interpassing involving Edebohls.  Late in the game Geelong had the opportunity to make it 5-1.  Michael Temelkovski beat the off side trap but was fouled by the last defender as he was about to pull the trigger from 10 meters out.  A red card and a penalty followed.  The spot kick, taken by Ilioski, was ballooned over the cross-bar.

At the end of the day the 4-1 score line could have been even greater and reflected the difference between the two teams.  It also means that the reserves have been undefeated for now for 4 weeks.
