Sharpen your soccer skills over the holidays!
Monday, 15 March 2010 14:05
Geelong Soccer and Sports Club is making good use of their Senior Coach, world renown soccer star Vata Garcia, by teaming up to provide cutting edge development clinics in the upcoming school holidays.
The clinics have been designed by Vata who has the skills and experience to know what works best. A hero in his birth country Angola, and Portugal where he played for SL Benfica, Vata first rose to international fame in the 1990 Champions League Semi-Final scoring the winning goal in the dying minutes against Marseilles and taking Benfica into the final against AC Milan. He has since coached and played in over 25 countries and recently decided to settle in Australia, bringing with him outstanding skills and knowledge to all levels of Australian Soccer
“I have a passion for youth development”, Garcia said. “Once players are older their habits are often too ingrained. By working with younger players I can use my experience to help them become better players.”
Geelong Soccer Club President, Lou Petkovski, is equally excited with the new partnership. “Vata’s experience is unparalleled in Australia, let alone here in Geelong. It’s an exciting opportunity for the region and I’m thrilled to be working with such a world-class player”.
The two clinics, each running for three days for ages 7 and up, are designed for club players and beginners alike. “I created a program for all kids”, Vata says. “Soccer is more than scoring a goal. Its about teamwork, patience and above all, having a good time. My life has always been soccer and I hope to teach others to enjoy it in the same way.
Since his appointment as Senior coach at Geelong Soccer Club Vata has been impressed with the local talent. “There is a lot of passion for soccer in Geelong”, he says. But regardless of their ability, I know they will have fun and keeping active is a bonus. Of course, he added, “I’m always on the lookout for the next Maradona. Who knows? Maybe I’ll find them here”.
The clinic cost is $150. All participants receive give-away’s and tutelage under Vata Garcia.
Registrations open March 19th and places are strictly limited.

Flood Light Upgrade Nears Completion
Friday, 22 January 2010 21:14
Our ground has been fitted with 2 extra light towers holding 4 lights each . The work is expected to finish in the coming weeks.
With this lighting upgrade we have applied to the League to play all our mens home matches under lights on Friday nights. If successful Friday night matches will provide a new excitement for our club and fans.
In 2011 we will erect 4 additional lights bringing the total to 24 lights around the ground (not including the Shell plume flame).
Our center light towers will be motorised so they will be able to spin around and light up the training ground also.
We'd like to thank everyone for helping with the works!
